Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Legate (legate.social), a campaign drafting space for X content. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you use Legate on behalf of a team or company, you confirm you can accept these terms for it.

The service

Legate is an early product from a small team. Features change often and occasionally break, and we may need to migrate data as the product evolves. We work to keep your content safe, and we recommend keeping your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. We will give reasonable notice before withdrawing a feature you pay for.

Your account

• You sign in with a Google account and are responsible for activity under your account.
• If you invite members to a space, you are responsible for who you invite; members see the space's content according to the role you give them.
• You must be at least 16 to use the service.

Your content

• You own everything you create in Legate.
• You grant us the limited licence needed to operate the service: hosting, backing up, displaying your content to the members of your space and to people you share links with, and sending it to your configured AI provider when you use an AI feature. Nothing more.
• You are responsible for what you publish. Posts sent to X through Legate are your posts and must comply with X's rules and applicable law.

Connected services and AI keys

• Connecting an X account authorises Legate to publish and schedule on that account when you instruct it. You can revoke this at any time from your X settings.
• AI features run on an API key. On the Free plan you supply the key, and your relationship with the AI provider, including the costs it charges, is between you and that provider. On a paid plan Legate provides included AI credit through a key it manages with OpenRouter, and you may connect your own key instead. We store keys encrypted and use them only for requests you initiate.

Plans, payments and refunds

• The Free plan lets you draft on a board of accounts with an AI key you supply. Publishing to X and research need a paid plan.
• Pro and Team are monthly subscriptions, priced in US dollars with tax added at checkout. Current prices are shown on legate.social and in Billing.
• Payments are processed and sold by Stripe as merchant of record. Stripe's terms and privacy policy apply to the payment itself, and Legate never sees your card details.
• A subscription renews each month until you cancel it from Manage billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period, and you keep the plan until then.
• Paid plans include a monthly allowance of X usage. Pro and Team also include AI credit on a key Legate manages; their lower-priced "your own AI key" variants include no AI credit, and you supply the key and pay your provider directly. Allowances reset on each billing date, and unused allowance does not carry over.
• Top-ups add purchased credit that never expires while your account exists. Purchased credit belongs to the space it was bought for and cannot be moved between spaces or exchanged for cash.
• Refunds are decided by Stripe under its policies. Ask for one through Link's transaction support, which handles purchases sold through Stripe as merchant of record.
• A refund of a subscription payment, in whole or in part, ends the plan straight away and moves the space to the Free plan: publishing, scheduling and research stop, and any remaining monthly allowance goes with the plan. Purchased credit is kept. A refund on a payment for an earlier subscription that has already ended changes nothing about the plan the space is on now.
• A refunded top-up removes the credit that top-up bought. Credit already spent cannot be returned.
• If a payment fails, the space moves to the Free plan. Nothing is deleted and purchased credit is kept; subscribing again restores the plan.
• We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice on this page and by email to space owners. A change applies from your first billing date after the notice period.

Acceptable use

Do not use Legate to:

• break the law, or infringe others' rights;
• send spam or run coordinated platform manipulation;
• probe, overload or interfere with the service, or attempt to access other tenants' data;
• resell or white-label the service without our agreement.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules.

Availability and support

The service is provided without an uptime guarantee. Support is by email and best-effort.

Disclaimers

Legate is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. AI-generated content can be wrong - review everything before you publish it.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, or lost data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Ending things

You can stop using Legate at any time and ask us to delete your account and data. Closing an account forfeits any remaining allowance and purchased credit. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these terms, and will give reasonable notice if we ever wind the service down, with an opportunity to export your content.

Changes

We may update these terms as the product evolves; material changes will be noted on this page with a new effective date. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
